Key Responsibilities
- Support engineering officers in planning, coordinating, and monitoring infrastructure development projects.
- Participate in routine inspections of buildings, court facilities, and civil engineering structures.
- Assist in preparing engineering reports, technical documentation, inspection records, and progress updates.
- Support the review of construction drawings, specifications, and engineering plans.
- Monitor ongoing construction and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with approved standards.
- Assist in collecting engineering measurements, project information, and technical site data.
- Participate in quality assurance activities throughout various stages of project implementation.
- Support preparation of bills of quantities, estimates, and engineering documentation where applicable.
- Assist in monitoring contractors' performance and project timelines.
- Help identify infrastructure maintenance requirements across assigned facilities.
- Participate in structural condition assessments and recommend improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, project files, and technical correspondence.
- Assist with preparation of engineering presentations and technical briefs.
- Support compliance with occupational health and safety procedures during field assignments.
- Observe environmental sustainability practices during engineering activities.
- Assist with inventory management of engineering equipment and technical resources.
- Participate in meetings relating to engineering projects and facility improvements.
- Conduct technical research to support engineering planning and project implementation.
- Assist in coordinating project schedules with relevant stakeholders.
- Help verify completion of assigned engineering tasks and maintenance activities.
- Participate in site visits to monitor infrastructure development progress.
- Support preparation of engineering performance reports for supervisors.
- Assist in reviewing contractor submissions and technical documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within engineering operations.
- Support infrastructure risk identification and reporting activities.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling official engineering information.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across various departments.
- Demonstrate professionalism and accountability during all assignments.
- Follow organizational policies, engineering standards, and applicable regulations.
- Perform additional engineering-related duties assigned by supervisors to support departmental objectives and professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in building and civil engineering from a recognized institution. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, structural concepts, infrastructure development, and technical documentation. Proficiency in computer applications, including engineering software and Microsoft Office tools, will be an added advantage. Strong analytical thinking, problem
- solving ability, and attention to technical detail are essential for supporting engineering assignments effectively. Applicants should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, collaborate with colleagues, and present technical information clearly. The ideal candidate should demonstrate integrity, professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and commitment to ethical conduct. Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, organizational ability, time management, willingness to learn, and the ability to work under supervision are highly desirable. Candidates should be flexible enough to serve in different duty stations within Kenya and demonstrate enthusiasm for public service. Knowledge of occupational safety practices, engineering standards, project coordination principles, and infrastructure maintenance processes will be advantageous. Applicants should exhibit initiative, reliability, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism throughout the internship period.
