Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate complex banking investigations involving financial losses, suspected fraud, operational irregularities, policy violations, and misconduct affecting banking operations.
- Allocate investigation assignments based on case complexity, investigator expertise, workload distribution, and operational priorities.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership throughout every phase of investigative activities while maintaining consistency in investigative standards.
- Review allegations received from internal departments, customers, whistleblowers, regulators, or external stakeholders before initiating investigative action.
- Develop investigation strategies that ensure evidence is gathered efficiently while preserving confidentiality and procedural integrity.
- Supervise interviews involving employees, customers, service providers, and other relevant individuals connected to investigations.
- Evaluate documentary, financial, electronic, transactional, and digital evidence to establish factual findings supporting investigation outcomes.
- Ensure investigative reports are comprehensive, objective, accurate, and supported by verifiable evidence before submission to management.
- Monitor investigation timelines to ensure assigned cases are concluded within agreed service delivery standards.
- Maintain secure documentation and custody of investigation records in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
- Identify emerging fraud patterns, operational vulnerabilities, and recurring control weaknesses requiring management attention.
- Recommend practical corrective measures that strengthen governance, reduce operational risks, and improve internal controls.
- Collaborate with compliance, legal, audit, cybersecurity, information technology, and operational departments during multidisciplinary investigations.
- Support recovery initiatives relating to financial losses whenever investigative findings identify recoverable assets or funds.
- Liaise professionally with regulatory agencies, law enforcement authorities, and external partners whenever investigations require external engagement.
- Review investigation methodologies periodically to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements and international best practices.
- Prepare detailed management reports highlighting investigation trends, fraud statistics, operational exposures, and recommended preventive measures.
- Mentor investigators by providing coaching, technical guidance, and continuous professional development opportunities.
- Evaluate investigation quality through periodic reviews and performance monitoring to maintain high professional standards.
- Promote ethical conduct, accountability, confidentiality, and impartial decision-making across the investigations function.
- Participate in fraud awareness campaigns by delivering presentations, educational sessions, and preventive guidance to employees.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of investigation procedures, policies, templates, and documentation standards.
- Assess operational incidents to determine root causes and recommend long-term preventive actions.
- Monitor implementation of agreed corrective actions following completed investigations.
- Ensure investigation activities comply with banking regulations, organizational policies, and legal obligations.
- Escalate significant risks requiring executive attention through timely communication supported by clear evidence.
- Maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders while preserving investigative independence.
- Utilize analytical techniques to identify suspicious transaction patterns and operational anomalies.
- Encourage continuous improvement through lessons learned from completed investigations.
- Perform additional investigations-related responsibilities assigned by senior leadership in support of organizational objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Commerce, Banking and Finance, Law, Accounting, Business Administration, or another relevant discipline.
- Professional certification such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), ACAMS, or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of banking operations and financial crime prevention.
- Excellent understanding of forensic investigation principles.
- Sound knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
