Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate Biology lectures, tutorials, laboratory demonstrations, and practical sessions in accordance with approved academic programs and departmental teaching schedules.
- Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, laboratory manuals, instructional materials, assessment tools, and learning resources that promote effective knowledge transfer.
- Develop engaging teaching approaches that encourage critical thinking, scientific inquiry, creativity, analytical reasoning, and active student participation.
- Evaluate student learning through continuous assessments, practical examinations, assignments, presentations, projects, and final examinations while ensuring fairness and academic integrity.
- Provide timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback that assists students in improving academic performance and scientific competence.
- Participate in curriculum review exercises to ensure programs remain relevant, competitive, industry-responsive, and aligned with emerging developments in biological sciences.
- Support the development of new Biology courses, laboratory activities, and innovative teaching methodologies that strengthen academic quality.
- Conduct scholarly research within specialized areas of Biology and contribute to expanding scientific knowledge through high-quality research outputs.
- Prepare competitive research grant proposals and collaborate with colleagues in seeking funding opportunities from local and international organizations.
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals while maintaining high standards of research ethics and academic excellence.
- Present scholarly papers during academic conferences, seminars, workshops, symposiums, and professional forums at national and international levels.
- Participate in collaborative interdisciplinary research projects that advance institutional research priorities and societal development.
- Supervise laboratory practical sessions while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures, equipment handling protocols, and environmental standards.
- Mentor students academically, professionally, and personally by providing career guidance, research advice, and educational support throughout their studies.
- Support student academic clubs, scientific exhibitions, innovation activities, and outreach programmes related to biological sciences.
- Participate in departmental meetings, faculty committees, moderation activities, quality assurance initiatives, and academic planning sessions.
- Assist in academic administration activities including examination invigilation, moderation, record management, and departmental reporting.
- Promote ethical conduct, professionalism, respect, diversity, and inclusive learning practices across all teaching and academic engagements.
- Utilize modern educational technologies, digital learning platforms, and virtual teaching tools to enhance student learning experiences.
- Maintain accurate academic records, assessment documentation, attendance registers, and course files in accordance with university policies.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow academic staff to improve teaching quality, research productivity, and departmental performance.
- Participate in consultancy assignments and professional engagements that strengthen institutional visibility and community impact.
- Contribute to outreach programs that promote science education within schools, communities, and industry stakeholders.
- Continuously pursue professional development opportunities to remain current with advancements in Biology education, research methodologies, and higher education best practices.
- Perform additional academic, administrative, or institutional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department or other authorized University leadership in support of departmental objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess a Master of Science (MSc) in Biology from a recognized and accredited university together with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from an accredited institution. Candidates must be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral program and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward completion. A minimum of three years of relevant post
- qualification professional experience within a university or comparable academic environment is required. Applicants should demonstrate proven experience in university teaching, laboratory instruction, curriculum delivery, student assessment, and scholarly research. Experience preparing research publications, grant proposals, or conference presentations will be considered an added advantage. - solving skills. Strong proficiency in modern teaching technologies, learning management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and digital instructional tools is highly desirable. Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable, will be an added advantage.
