Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate Medical Surgical Nursing lectures, tutorials, laboratory demonstrations, simulation exercises, and clinical teaching sessions using modern learner-centered methodologies.
- Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, instructional guides, teaching schedules, assessment tools, and academic resources aligned with approved university curricula.
- Evaluate student learning through assignments, practical examinations, continuous assessments, presentations, and final examinations while maintaining fairness and academic integrity.
- Supervise students during clinical placements and provide professional guidance that strengthens safe nursing practice and patient-centered care.
- Develop innovative teaching materials that integrate current healthcare technologies, evidence-based nursing practices, and emerging clinical developments.
- Regularly review, revise, and improve course content to ensure relevance, quality, and compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in curriculum planning meetings and contribute ideas that strengthen program quality and graduate readiness.
- Mentor students academically, professionally, and personally while promoting ethical conduct and lifelong learning.
- Support research initiatives by designing studies, collecting and analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, and publishing scholarly work in recognized journals.
- Identify research funding opportunities and participate in writing competitive grant proposals for institutional and collaborative projects.
- Present research findings during academic conferences, scientific symposiums, workshops, webinars, and professional forums.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research, academic innovation, and community-based healthcare projects.
- Participate in departmental meetings, faculty committees, quality assurance activities, and institutional strategic initiatives.
- Build partnerships with hospitals, healthcare facilities, and professional organizations to strengthen clinical learning opportunities.
- Promote innovation and critical thinking among students through interactive discussions, case studies, simulations, and problem-solving activities.
- Maintain accurate academic records, examination documentation, attendance registers, and student performance reports.
- Uphold university academic policies, examination regulations, professional ethics, and confidentiality standards.
- Participate in student recruitment activities, orientation programs, academic advising, and graduation processes.
- Engage in community outreach programs that promote public health education and healthcare awareness.
- Continuously update professional knowledge through training, conferences, workshops, certifications, and scholarly engagement.
- Contribute to departmental strategic planning, accreditation exercises, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that values diversity, professionalism, teamwork, and mutual respect.
- Support digital learning initiatives through effective use of educational technologies and online teaching platforms.
- Perform additional academic or administrative responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department or university management in support of institutional objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess a Master of Science in Medical Surgical Nursing together with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from recognized and accredited universities. Candidates must hold a valid practicing license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya and demonstrate a minimum of three years of relevant post
- qualification professional experience. Previous involvement in university teaching, clinical instruction, research, or community engagement will be considered an added advantage.
- The successful candidate should possess excellent instructional, communication, presentation, mentoring, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Strong analytical abilities, critical thinking, problem
- solving capabilities, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
